Mindful Travel in Ladakh – A high altitude desert in northern India, Ladakh is home to abundant oasis’s and a rich culture of traditional farmers carving a living from the Himalaya. Since opening to visitors in 1974, the rise in tourism to Ladakh has brought much change to the region and culture, placing pressure on the ecology, local food systems, and traditions of Ladakh. Local Future’s Mindful Travel Program promotes responsible tourism by offering tourists ways to not only minimize environmental impacts but to engage in the local economy for meaningful and mutual cultural exchange. The Magic in Homesteading – "Homesteading means staying close to home", Jim Cornish muses as he warms by a wood fire place at his homestead in Harpswell, Maine. Farming for 40 years, Jim teaches the age old crafts of gardening, raising livestock, foraging and carpentry at Stone Soup Institute. A former student, Jeremy Kasten, draws on his experience at Stone Soup as he and his family prepare for their second season growing vegetables and raising animals. Directed by Wilder Nicholson.
